Helping Children be Resilient and Coping with Life's Knocks

There are two constants in life I guarantee your children will experience.

Change and failure.

And in order for our children to cope, they need to be resilient and flexible.

Whilst we can't change temperament, (and nor do we want to), we can work with it. There are always solutions and strategies we can teach our children to enable them to deal with setbacks, pick themselves up, try again and bolster their self esteem.

I believe biology is not their destiny.

So if you want to help your child to

  • see failures as learning opportunities,

  • have resourcefulness and confidence, so they can thrive in face of uncertainty or difficulty

  • take responsibility for their own actions because they feels basically ok about themselves

  • try new things, take reasonable risks and to persevere.

  • value others, without the need to put others down, in order to build themselves up

  • form loving relationships

  • stand up for themselves, behave in appropriate, considerate but assertive ways

  • weather life's rough patches better

  • accept feedback as constructive suggestions, not criticism

  • be able to feel ok with losing/experiencing failure and feel confident within a competitive environment

Life doesn’t always go smoothly. We all have set backs and upsets in our lives, and no more so than during lock down and COVID 19. To be able to deal with them well requires resilience and that depends on good self-esteem and emotional intelligence. We want our children to have the ability to bounce back from adversity; to pick themselves up and have another go. Parents play a vital part in building strong self-esteem and resilience in their children.

This webinar looks at research into the importance of self-esteem, growth mindset and emotional intelligence. It will give parents skills to improve their children’s self-confidence, build a growth mindset and develop resilience. We cover specific skills to encourage the children to deal constructively with challenges and pick themselves up again after set backs.
